MEET: Nader soltani

Tell us about yourself / what you do in Vancouver?

Im a Vancouverite, raised on the North Shore and went to UBC to study computer engineering. For the last 10 years, I've been working for a medical software company which gave me the chance to travel all over North America, and for which I moved to Montreal for 4 years. I was drawn back to Vancouver by those glorious mountains peaking above the sea shores, a sight that never gets old.

What gets you fired up everyday?

I wake up everyday ready to make a positive impact on the world, and that starts by being true to the mantra within yourself, then expanding outward to friends, family, coworkers and our communities. I love to stay active and eat right - I find thats the key to my personal happiness. From there, I look to embrace each moment with optimism, and engage with people with a genuine kindness.

Why do you love summer camp?

I love the freedom of the outdoors and the new connections that are waiting to be made when you first see all of the potential new friends.

Whats your best camp memory?

As a kid growing up in North Van, I went to Outdoor School (Camp Camp's venue) many times through our school curriculum and for other events. I was also a counsellor at the same camp during high school. My favorite memory of camp is a night walk we did in the forest and turning off our flashlights, just listening to the sounds of the night. It was exhilarating and terrifying, I definitely conquered a fear that night.

What's your camp intention / what are you looking forward to most @ Camp Camp

I look forward to that camp nostalgia, and to see if we can recreate the same care-free excitement as adults. Re-ignite that child like wonder inside of us. Then sit around the bonfire and roast some marshmallows.

What are your three essential items?

Camping knife - always comes in handy in the wild

Lighter - a quick fire starter is a must

Laybag - good for napping and floating on the lake
